Tim Matsui, SEATTLE, WA - Friday, January 27, 2006 U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) joined U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) at Seattle Biodiesel to promote energy independence and call for a greater federal support for ground-brakening alternative energy initiatives already underway at the local level. Cantwell is signing on to Clintons legislation to create a latter-day Manhattan Project aimed at accelerating the development of advanced energy technologies. The two senators, with democratic leader Harry Reid (D-NV) are sponsoring the Advanced Research Projects Energy (ARPA-E) Act to fund alternative energy research. Cantwell states that reliance on foreign oil is a threat to the U.S. economy, competitiveness, and national security and she supports development of non-petroleum based fuels and energy sources. Seattle Biodiesel is working with Cantwell and Washington Governor Gregoire to help develop a market for biodiesel and recently signed a fuel contract with the Port of Seattle. Negotiations are currently underway for Seattle Biodiesel to expand its operations to create the nations largest biodiesel refinery and to do so on Port property. Clinton is also in the Pacific Northwest to support her fellow democrats at fundraisers and to solidify her support. (Photo by Tim Matsui/WpN)
